Those that participate in the thirteen strange dark rites that comprise Black Ceremonies find themselves at the mercy of sinister forces. Make an invocation to evil. Witness the horrors of war. Day One of Showcasing the books published by Parallel Universe Publications: The Heaven Maker & Other Gruesome Tales by Craig Herbertson

This is day one of showcasing the books published by PUP that are still available.

Day One: The Heaven Maker and Other Gruesome Tales is Edinburgh born Craig Herbertson’s first horror collection. There has been a revival of the old style horror exemplified by the gory Pan Horror collections once commonplace in newsagents and train station kiosks throughout the UK. “The Heaven Maker”, published in 1988, was one such story; at last it is once again in print along with some unseemly and dreadful companions. Also on the menu are stand alone excerpts from the critically acclaimed dark fantasy novel, “School: The Seventh Silence”, followed by an aperitif of dark songs from Herbertson’s extensive traditional repertoire. Bizarre philosophical discussions alternate with episodes of fantasy, horror… and occasional whimsy… The images and ideas come thick and fast. A very enjoyable read, perfect for lovers of fantasy that’s a bit different.

Parallel Universe Publications Projects for the Future

2024 will already be quite busy for PUP, with the publication of a trilogy of linked sword and sorcery stories on top of our usual anthologies in May and November.

Even so we are nevertheless interested in expanding our scope. And with this in mind there are two new anthology series we are thinking about embarking on. One will be a sister anthology to our existing sword and sorcery series, covering the genre of Sword and Planet, possibly titled Swords & Planets: Tales of Science Fantasy

The second is self explanatory from its title: The Parallel Universe Publications Book of Horror & The Supernatural.

A final decision on these anthology series has not been made, but there is every possibility either one or both will be published either later this year or in 2025.

In the meantime, keep a watch out for announcements on Swords & Sorceries: Tales of Heroic Fantasy Volumes 8 and 9, and the forthcoming trilogy, the first volume of which should be out in the coming months.

Parallel Universe Publications Book of Horror & The Supernatural

After having published 7 very successful swords and sorcery anthologies, (Swords & Sorceries: Tales of Heroic Fantasy) I am now considering a second series: The Parallel Universe Publicatons Book of Horror & The Supernatural.
This is something I'll be looking into during 2024. This would be a paying market and submissions details would be similiar to those for Swords & Sorceries: Tales of Heroic Fantasy.
Would anyone be interested in buying such a publication and, just as important, submitting stories to it?
Below is a mock up of the cover without, at the moment, any artwork.

There are eleven writers whose stories appear in Swords & Sorceries: Tales of Heroic Fantasy Volume 7: Stephen Frame, Paul Batteiger, Andrew Graham, Phil Emery, Gavin Chappell, Jason M Waltz, Jalyn Renae Fiske, Craig Comer, Eric Ian Steele, Jon Zaremba, and Harry Elliott. Here are the pages from the Introduction which tells you a little bit about them.
